Since 2002, the Aeropuerto Padre Aldamiz, located at only 7 km. to west Puerto Maldonado, is considered as a world-class air terminal, with Migration offices, Customs, Police Station, Dirandro, Transit Police, DIRCETUR information service and Operative Health Center where you can get vaccinated free granted by the Ministry of Health in order to entry into the Jungle area.
Flight frequency is increasing at this airport. The majority of passengers are tourists interested in ecology, the natural landscape and biodiversity, since this is the richest region in flora and fauna in the country and with the most impressive natural scenery.
The main origin cities of the flights are Cusco and Lima, via Cusco. Passenger movement, in recent years, has reached 200,000 people who have arrived or departed from this airport, main access via to the most important ecological areas in the Madre de Dios region, recognized as the biodiversity capital of Peru.
Its runway with concrete pavement measures 3.500 meters in length x45 meters in width. It has the same length as the Aeropuerto Internacional Jorge Chávez runway and allows landing B747-400 aircrafts. In addition to commercial flights, this airport is used by Boeing 707 aircrafts from the Fuerza Aérea del Perú (Peruvian Air Force), Navy, Army and National Police, carrying civilian passengers and cargo, aircrafts with charter flights and private jets.
The Aeropuerto Padre Aldamiz offers its services between 6.00 and 18.00 hours. Its 1-floor passenger terminal has a 500 square meters hall and a boarding area with 128 seats. It has 3-floor control tower and 11 meters in height. It also has a VIP lounge, (03) Airline offices, (07) counters, restaurants, cafes and stores offering local products.
It has a 10,000 square meters parking lot and provides easy transport and parking for more than 60 cars, lineal Motorcycles, Motokars and Toritos (proper transport for Jungle area), as well as buses of the tourism agencies.
Security within the airport facilities is guaranteed by the police officers of the Sub-station Police, and also by agents of a private security company.
The Aeropuerto Internacional Padre Aldamiz has an Aviation Health Unit and Fire Fighting Station, with aviation fire fighters and Titan 4 x 4 E – ONE vehicles for emergencies.
The airport health authorities require passengers the vaccination certificate against yellow fever due to the climatic conditions of the area.
